Designer, Entrepreneur and Creative Director to the Khyris Brand

As I begin this recollection of my journey down this road I've walked thus far, I have to somewhat ponder whether my story is any different from others that share a passion for fashion, design and clothing. I think again and soon realise everyone has their own story to tell.

This is my story......

Mine is one of a simple life in a conservative upbringing. Born and raised in Chatsworth, like most Indian parents in an Apartheid Era, all that our parents lived and strived for was that they raised kids with a good education to empower them to reach greater heights than they could ever reach. Instilling good values, love and compassion for everyone, respect and tolerance for others was the cornerstone of my upbringing from both my parents. My dad was a hard working, brilliant man who could find a creative and practical solution to the most complex of problems. I cannot and will not give myself any praise to say that I am like him  but to be blessed to be guided, raised and mentored by an amazing human being. My dad worked hard to have all his kids get a good University Education. I started off on a path of studying for a Bachelor of Engineering Degree and it took me 2 years of figuring out if it was where I wanted to be. With much persuasion from my oldest brother who convinced me that my passion, drive and talent lay in what I enjoyed the most ( which was making my own clothes), I switched from a background of mathematics and the sciences to one of creativity and the fascinating art of fashion design. 

I have to pay tribute to my maternal granny for sparking my interest in sewing from her simple hand operated Singer Sewing machine where she cut freehand garments that she sewed for herself. I found myself immersed for hours in experimenting with the sewing machine from the young age of 12 years old. My love for sewing and obsession for fabric thus begun 38 years ago.

This is where I am now....

~Owner and Creative Director to my brand label Khyris ( named after my 4 kids Kehlin, Carissa, Kyra and Dhyrin)

~Owner and manager of a small CMT company manufacturing clothing for my brand Khyris as well as offering services to other brands and individual clients that require bespoke pieces of clothing in small units.

~Pattern making service to clients wishing to use us for CMT. 

~Made to Measure Evening and Bridal by Appointment

~Mentor to young and upcoming Designers and Entrepreneurs

~Ongoing skills development in patternmaking, cutting and sewing to staff.
